Description

Each year, serious adverse events are associated with the use of IV opioid medications in hospitals. CMS mandates that all hospital staff give a special assessment the first time an opioid is administered, among other requirements.

This program will cover the revised standards on safe opioid use, IV medication, blood transfusion, CDC guideline for prescribing opioids, TJC guideline for pain management, federal guidelines for opioid programs, and recommendations to address the opioid epidemic. Our expert will also discuss opioid requirements found in the pharmacy and QAPI sections in the Hospital CoP Manual, ISMP Safe Practice Guidelines, and the National Action Plan for ADE Prevention.

Attendees will learn how to accurately assess at-risk patients for the use of IV opioids, use tools to monitor patients, recognize side effects, and document information.
