Description

This course explores reasons for newborn hypoxia and cyanosis from congenital heart disease and persistent pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary causes, neurological causes and sepsis. It also discusses various treatment options for hypoxia and cyanosis in the newborn.

Objectives

Explain fetal circulation and metabolism as it relates to newborn hypoxia and cyanosis.
On completion of this course, the learner will be able to explain fetal circulation and metabolism as it relates to newborn hypoxia and cyanosis.
Describe the physiologic changes that occur during the newborn transition to the extrauterine environment.

Identify the key components for assessment and physical examination of the infant exhibiting hypoxia.

The course was very detailed . The cyanosed baby can be prevented right from the Prenatal care, during labour and at berth. Asimple observation missed like auscultion to detect a partent duct is significant. Health education to mothers to be to sttent prenatal clinics is vital for early detection of predisposing factors.
