Description

This session summarizes the 2014 Clinical Practice Guidelines for Stroke in Women and specifically identifies the role of antiplatelet and anticoagulation therapy for at-risk women.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Discuss nursing implications to reduce risk factors for stroke in women

2. Identify sex-specific factors for stroke in women.

3. Summarize best evidence for nursing activities targeting stroke prevention in women

4. Provide overview of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Stroke in Women published in American Heart

5. Association Guidelines in 2014 -- Summarize the role of antiplatelet therapy and anticoagulation in the prevention of stroke in high risk women.

Dr. Fedder Received her undergraduate bachelors degree in nursing from Marquette University, her MBA at Loyola University Chicago and her Doctor of Nursing practice at Rush Union University Chicago. Dr. Fedder is a member of the American Heart Association Stroke Council, She's a Fellow of the American Heart Association and she was a joint commission primary stroke center reviewer in the United States and abroad. She worked at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin where she lead a team to a successful initial stroke certification in 2004. In addition she developed the first stroke-nurse navigation program in the United States.
