This CEU course provides a way to improve the understanding of current prescription drug abuse activities, reviews current initiatives, and identifies opportunities to ensure the safe use of prescription drugs with the potential for abuse and the treatment of prescription drug dependence.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Discuss the items that are reduced among the states with prescription drug monitoring programs, compared to states without such programs.

2. Explain how insurer and pharmacy benefit manager policies likely contribute to abuse and overdose.

3. Investigate the differences between men and women with regard to the use and abuse of prescription drugs.

4. Examine which groups are at an increased risk of dying from a prescription opioid overdose.
