Description

Decreasing medical errors has become a global healthcare goal. As a result, patient safety has emerged as a major target for healthcare improvement. Quality assurance is a complex task, which requires healthcare professionals to be up to date with the most recently developed strategies being used to prevent medical errors. This CEU provides nurses with insight into medical errors while providing innovative preventative strategies to decrease medical errors and increase patients' overall quality of care.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Examine the impact of medical errors and adverse events, while defining safety.

2. Explore why intensive care unit (ICU) patients are more likely to experience medical errors.

3. Evaluate how to measure safety, while obtaining an understanding of medical error and adverse event rates and risk factors.
