Description

Aromatherapy can be defined as the art and science of utilizing
naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize
and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. It is an art and science
which seeks to explore the physiological, psychological and spiritual
realm of the individual's response to aromatic extracts as well as to
observe and enhance the individual's innate healing process. As a
holistic practice, Aromatherapy is both a preventive approach as well as
an active method to employ during acute and chronic stages of illness or 'dis'-ease

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Describe at least one way aromatherapy has historically been used to enhance pleasure, comfort or health.

2. Summarize 3 to 5 of the most important production, regulation and quality issues and why they are important.

3. List two benefits and two precautions for using essential oils for oneself and one’s family

4. List two essential oil delivery methods and the precautions for using each

Dawn L. Langley-Brady MSN, RN, AHN-BC, CHPN, CCAP is a Certified Clinical Aromatherapy Practitioner. She is also a registered nurse with more than 24 years of nursing experience. She holds a Master’s of Science in Nursing Degree, is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the National Honor Society of Nursing, and is a graduate of Excelsior College, Augusta State University, University of Phoenix and the East West School of Herbal and Aromatic Studies.

Dawn is a Board Certified Advanced Holistic Nurse, a nationally Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse and is the leader (president) of the CSRA Chapter of the American Holistic Nurses Association. Dawn is also an instructor for Georgia Regents University - College of Nursing and a photographer/artist.
