Description

This course delves into how to assess Internet Addiction using the Internet Addiction Test, the most widely used standardized measure of the condition used in clinical and academic settings. This course explores the ways to approach treatment using digital diet and digital nutrition as basic guides along with evidenced-based treatment approaches for working with this emergent client population. Specifically, CBT-IA developed by Dr. Young is an empirical three stage model and is shown in clinical practice from early, middle, to later sessions with the client. Finally, current and future trends in the field of Internet Addiction are discussed.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
Objective 1:
Understand that moderation over abstinence for technology is the main focus of treatment
Objective 2:
Understand treatment factors such as digital potency, digital diet, and digital nutrition.
Objective 3:
Apply clinical interview techniques and assessment tools to evaluate the disorder.
Objective 4:
Design an evidenced-based treatment plan using CBT-IA for individual patients.

Dr Kimberly Young

Dr. Kimberly S. Young is a licensed psychologist and an internationally known expert on Internet addiction. She founded the Center for Internet Addiction in 1995 and is a professor at St. Bonaventure University publishing numerous articles and books including as Caught in the Net, the first to identify Internet addiction, Tangled in the Web, Breaking Free of the Web, and Internet addiction: A Handbook and Guide for Evaluation and Treatment. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The London Times, USA Today, Newsweek, Time, CNN, CBS News, Fox News, Good Morning America, and ABC’s World News Tonight. She has received the Psychology in the Media Award from the Pennsylvania Psychological Association and the Alumni Ambassador Award for Outstanding Achievement from Indiana University at Pennsylvania. She serves consults with Internet addiction treatment centers in the United States, the UK, Australia, Korea, China, Japan, Europe, and Canada.
